Medical Studies

In 1984, after my successful participation in the ‘Panhellenic Exams’ I was admitted to The Medical School of the University of Patras from which I graduated with a degree in Medicine on the 9th of July 1991 (Law no. 441).

Certificate of Professional Competence

On the 15th of July I obtained the Certificate of Professional competence in the medical profession from the Prefecture of Athens. (Law no. 15989)

Rural Practice

For the period between the 13/09/1991 and 12/09/1992 I completed my mandatory rural practice at the General Hospital – Health Center of Sitia. (Law no. 2733)

Medical Specialty

From 15/11/1992 until 8/05/1993 I was appointed as a general practitioner at the pathological clinic of the General Hospital of Sitia. There, I performed my general practice in pathology for a period of six months and finally attained my medical specialty in Neurology, which was my first choice. (Law no. 1918)

From 30/07/1993 up until 29/01/1994 I was appointed at the Psychiatric Hospital of Chania where I practiced Psychiatry. There, I spent six months of specializing in Psychiatry and actively participated in the medical care of patients as well as in holding regular emergency outpatient clinics.

From 25/05/1994 to 24/05/1995 I was appointed at the ANeurological Clinic of the AHEPA University General Hospital. I completed a one-year practice in Neurology where I actively engaged in all the daily activities of the department in the patient ward, the clinic laboratories, in the frequent emergency outpatient clinics as well as in the post-graduate, research programs of the clinic. After the completion of my studies in the specialty of Neurology, I submitted an application to alter it, from Neurology to Psychiatry – which became accepted on 11/02/1998 by the Central Board of Health (KESY) (Law no. Υ7/ 909)

From 17/07/1995 up until 21/01/1998 I was appointed at the BUniversity Psychiatric Clinic of the Psychiatric Hospital of Thessaloniki (law no.6702), where I completed the rest of my practice in Psychiatry in view of acquiring the title of the Psychiatrist.

During my practice I participated in the following activities:

A) During the first cycle of my studies at the University Psychiatric Clinic Psychiatric Hospital of Thessaloniki:

• General Psychiatry with diagnostic-interpretive and treatment duties with psychotic patients under supervision.
• Participation and presentation of Seminars (each of which was presented every fifteen days and had a duration of one hour and thirty minutes):
  • Diagnostic and Clinical Psychiatry Seminars
  • Psychiatric Interview and Clinical Diagnostics
  • Psychotherapy with Psychotics
  • Introduction in the Psychoanalytic Psychopathology and Psychotherapy and
  • Psychometrics and Methodology of Psychiatric Research and Primary Applied Psychopharmacology
• Participation in:
  • Primary clinical practice
  • Group psychotherapy
  • Service with returning patients
  • Educational interviews and
  • A Presentation of an incident every fifteen days after being monitored by four supervisors

B) During the second cycle of studies at the Community Mental Health Center:

• I was trained in the Diagnostic/Evaluation Service of adults, in the Child Psychiatry Department and the Psychotherapy Service of the Community Mental Health Center.
• I participated in the preparation and presentation of seminars, each of which was presented every fifteen days and had a duration of one hour and thirty minutes, regarding:
  • Psychobiology
  • Social Service
  • Child Psychiatry
  • Therapeutic Treatment planning
  • Psychiatric Therapy
  • Psychoanalytic Psychopathology
  • Behavioral Psychotherapy
  • Group Psychotherapy
  • Sexual Disorder Psychotherapy

During this period, Ι undertook the supervision and care of neurotic patients as well as patients with personality disorder in the context of individual psychotherapy of at least fifty hours per month.

In addition to that, I also took on the post-hospital supervision of long-term psychotic patients in the context of individual and group psychotherapy. I was weekly assessed and evaluated for one hour for my performance in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy by two supervisors as well as for the Continuous Incident Occurrence Treatment for two hours weekly by a supervisory committee. Similarly, I was supervised by the committee weekly for one hour for my performance in Behavioral Psychotherapy, Treatment of Sexual Disorders and Group Psychotherapy.

During the third cycle of my studies at theCommunity Mental Health Center, in other outpatient structures and in the “Agios Dimitrios” General Hospital, I was trained in Community Counselling Service and in the Liaison Counselling Psychiatric Service of the General Hospital. I carried on the observation and monitoring of psychotic and neurotic patients. I participated in the preparation and presentation of Seminars in Advanced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Cognitive and Analytic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy, Supportive Psychotherapy, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatric Application in Medicine and in Socio-Communal Psychiatry and Epidemiology, each of which had a duration of one hour and thirty minutes and was presented every fifteen days. During this year, I continued with monitoring and care of psychotic and neurotic patients in the context of individual psychotherapy of fifty hours per month at least under supervision.

I undertook the therapy of at least two families and actively engaged in the Counselling and Psychological Support Center of the Students’ social club as well as in the Liaison Service of the General Hospital and finally, in the Crisis Intervention Services. I was undersupervision for one hour per week in Cognitive-Analytic, in Cognitive Behavioral and Family Therapy, and received a two-hour supervision in issues of Counselling-Liaison Psychiatry. I acquired the title of the specialty in Psychiatry on the 20th of July in 1988 (Law no. C2/29520).

Post-graduate Studies in the 3rd University Psychiatric Clinic of the AHEPA General Hospital

• Participation in the Clinic’s research activity in Dementia and in the Alzheimer Disease
• Attendance of educational seminars regarding the Neuropsychological Control of Cognitive functions and frontal lobes
• Post-graduate seminar attendance at the Neurological Clinic and in thefirst AHEPAUniversity General Hospital
• Courses of Neurology, Neuropsychology, Neuroanatomy, Seminars on the Alzheimer’s Disease, Neuropsychological evaluations on tumors of the Central Nervous System and seminars on Neurotransmitter of Neuropsychiatric diseases as well as functional organization of the cortex of the cerebral hemispheres.

Child Mental Health Center

• Attendance of Social Workers’ interviews with parents in the context of Special Intervention procedures in case of incidents with severe social problems.
• Attendance of diagnostic and therapeutic intervention using psychological and psychometric tests.
• Child psychiatric examination, assessment and treatment of cases

Training of Residents and Practitioners

During my service as Registrar in the Psychiatric Clinic of the “Papanikolaou Hospital”,I participate in the training of educational seminarsfor residents of General Medicine which go by the title “Training Seminars in the Liaison - Counseling Psychiatry" as well as in the information and additional training of the Nursing Staff which actively participates in all the activities of the Clinic.

Professional Experience

From 30/04/1999 to 08/08/2001 I maintained a private medical practice in Thessaloniki.

On 09/08/2001 I was appointed as Registrar B at the Papanikolaou General Hospital where I still work at the Psychiatric Ward in the Adult Department.
